ParaFed Otago organises and delivers sports to individuals with physical disabilities. We run a number of sports at The Edgar Centre as the venue is fully accessible, and has very accommodating staff. Without The Edgar Centre we would not be able to run Wheelchair Rugby and Wheelchair Basketball, keep our athletics programme running throughout the winter, offer table tennis, ambulant football and more. The Edgar Centre has truly been a major contributor to our successes across a range of sports.
This year ParaFed Otago was able to hold our first ever ‘3 on 3’ Wheelchair Basketball Tournament at The Edgar Centre. The event allowed six teams to compete against each other after training for the past ten months. The games were very competitive, and there was a lot of laughter and fun had by everyone participating. In the final the Wild Hogs had a convincing win over the Wheely Warriors; a title they hope to defend in 2018 at an even bigger tournament. ParaFed Otago are also looking to send a team to a national tournament in 2018, so plenty of practice at The Edgar Centre is crucial.
The team at ParaFed Otago would like to thank The Edgar Centre and their friendly staff for always making the team feel welcome, and helping people with disabilities be active in a wide range of sports.
